KDE plasma issues logging in, shutting down and restarting

Hello,

I have been using Manjaro XFCE in different machines for many years.

A couple of weeks ago I opted for installing the KDE Plasma version on a desktop machine with very standard hardware (vide infra). I must mention that I performed the installation offline because the proxy was not configured.

$XDG_SESSION_TYPE reports x11 but I have noticed that KDE Plasma depends on several Wayland-related packages which are therefore installed and cannot be removed.

I have not tweaked the system configuration at all, it is a vanilla installation.

Sometimes the display partially freezes when trying to shutdown or restart from the GUI menus. In addition, sometimes I have issues logging in after restarting or when unlocking the screen after inactivity.

It does not happen all the time but I was wandering if there are other users experiencing the same behaviour.

I am currently running a custom kernel but the issues started right after installation and persisted until the installation of the new kernel. The symptoms with the new and the standard kernel are identical.

check if you are using raid:
inxi -R
switch to the 5.15 kernel and try with it…
and if it happens also with that kernel, reboot after the freeze happens, and provide logs from it:
journalctl -b-1 -p4 --no-pager

I have a similar problem with Plasma 5.27 on Wayland. Hibernation is just broken and shutting down takes about two minutes…

I’ll check if the same issue is on X11. We might be having different issues with the same symptoms. The journal showed Wayland and other issues as well. Hmm… I won’t post my log here for the time being, so I would not highjack the thread. I’m curious if some similar issues will come up and about the methods of solving such a issue.

EDIT: I checked X11 session and the issue is gone, so my problem in Wayland specific.
EDIT2: I found out that this is a SDDM (upstream issue) and they have been notified about it. It’s unclear when they will fix it. See the details:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445449

Sort of connected to this one

Indeed, installing SDDM-git from AUR seems to solve the issue.

I did a couple of days ago and not more issues whatsoever ever since.

Yeah, it did solve my issue on Wayland too!
