Welcome to the Manjaro community
As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit.
To that end, links are provided (below) - Please use them.
Be prepared to provide outputs from various commands when asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.
Waiting for someone to blindly ask questions is also counter-productive – typically, nobody has a
at their disposal – Instead, please help others to ask informed questions, based on information you provide.
The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.
While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; ![]()
Output of the inxi command (with appropriate parameters, and formatted according to forum guidelines) will generate information useful for those wishing to help:
inxi --filter --verbosity=8
or the short form (preferred):
inxi -zv8
That bar could be an empty panel that you have inadvertantly created. If you can right-click it, perhaps there might be an option to close it. ![]()
That is the extent of my sage wisdom for today, as you have provided no other information that might help to diagnose the issue.
See the post from @tracyanne (above);
especially follow the link given How to Post.
rincing
I’m afraid I have no idea what this “rincing” is – no such package exists in the official Manjaro repositories, if indeed it’s a package at all – more information is needed.
Just relax for a few moments and consider… what might others need to know in order to understand my issue and hopefully help me find a solution…
Regards.
As above it’s probably a panel. Right click and if nothing else you can auto-hide them (which is what I do) and they then will pop up only when you place your mouse to the edge of the screen. Plenty of other options there, so look around.
I guess the OP means “ricing” which I relatively recently discovered, apparently means “customizing the DE to look posh/pretty/whatever”.
That term doesn’t make much sense to me either. ![]()
Originally used as a pejorative in the auto modding world where modding (generally inexpensive) Japanese cars was seen as a senseless waste of time and money (and in poor taste) by the guys who could afford AMDs and so forth. Both car modders and their finished work were called “ricers”.
Nor to many others (especially, older generations, and those who simply “don’t get out much”), it seems;
Rincing, however – only served to remind me of a much loved character, a famous ‘not-a-Wizard’ borne from the mind of the late Terry Pratchett.
@BG405 I tend to agree with your interpretation; the OP made a typographical error, and probably meant “ricing” – it’s the only thing that makes sense at this time. ![]()
“In my day”, they just called it “pimping”;
though the term certainly has other connotations.
Interesting! Thanks. ![]()
I guess I “riced” my last Japanese car by fitting alloy wheels (bigger, which a lad on the Micra Forums sold me for a very decent price); not only did the look nice but the handling was so much better!
The tyres were low-profile meaning the larger wheels with the slimmer tyres resulted in much firmer grip in all conditions but the overall diameter was only about an inch greater … and better fuel economy too!
