(what appears to be) Kernel Panic on Playing Sound from Internal Card

Replaced my XPS 9700 motherboard with one from a 9710. Everything else currently works after some wrangling, except:

  1. the screen will either flash static or go completely black and the entire computer will become unresponsive upon attempting to play any sound from the internal sound card. REISUB/O, which I have enabled through grub, will cease to work at this point, the only option is hard powering off. This does not happen if I play sound through an external card, such as via plugging in a USB-C to headphone jack adapter with a built in TX-384Khz.
  2. brightness settings are not saved, screen goes back to 100% on every boot.
  3. trackpad input sometimes gets “stuck”. It would be slower than usual occasionally, and at other times would randomly exhibit dragging behavior (highlighting text, moving windows etc) from tapping alone.
  4. screen will flash once on boot, and grub has a slow transition from one screen to another in the boot menu. I have not observed these quirks on my prior motherboard, so I figured it’d be worth asking.

Currently 1 bothers me the most, which is why I put it as the title. Both models use a Realtek ALC711-CG, but in my old motherboard this shows up as Comet Lake while the new motherboard displays it as Tiger Lake. This discrepancy and the panic happens on kernel versions 5.10, 5.15, and 5.19. I have yet to try this on a different distro or clean install, and will report back if and when I do.

Updating system BIOS might resolve some of the hardware issues mentioned
XPS 17 9710 System BIOS | dell.com/support/drivers/

System has a Realtek ALC711-CG audio codec and ALC1309D amplifier/DACs for speaker outputs
XPS 17 9710 Setup and Specifications - Audio | dell.com/support/manuals

ALSA data is showing audio mixer controls for Headphone; Speaker and the amplifier/DAC outputs are muted – [off]

!!-------Mixer controls for card sofsoundwire
Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0

  Mono: Playback [off]

Simple mixer control 'Speaker',0

  Mono: Playback [off]

Simple mixer control 'rt1308-1 DAC L',0

  Mono: Playback [off]

Simple mixer control 'rt1308-1 DAC R',0

  Mono: Playback [off]

Simple mixer control 'rt1308-2 DAC L',0

  Mono: Playback [off]

Simple mixer control 'rt1308-2 DAC R',0

  Mono: Playback [off]

I suggest you use alsamixer to unmute all audio playback controls

sudo alsamixer --card=1

Use keys to select output controls

and M to switch from muted [MM] to unmuted [OO] state

If audio playback is still not working as expected when controls have been unmuted, try using latest kernel v6.0

sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux60

Flashing BIOS did not resolve the issue. Sound cannot be re-enabled via ALSA without triggering an immediate blackscreen. Screen flashing on boot is not fixed but also appears to be harmless. At least brightness and trackpad seem to be working perfectly now. Currently updating my system and kernel before trying again.
EDIT: issue persists on 6.0 and after full system update, returning to 5.15 and using an external card. It is worth noting that I tried to replace the motherboard twice, with the first time being aborted halfway through after I realized the heat sink does not match up, and in the intermission period between the first and second attempts the sound card (which is independent of the motherboard) is recognized by lspci but not by ALSA on the former 9700 motherboard. Is the card itself broken, perhaps?

I take that back. Trackpad will still randomly stick, and appears to do so more frequently and irreversibly (it used to unstick itself eventually and just be a bit slow, now it barely moves and can only be fixed with reboot). The fix appears to involve physically grounding it, which I don’t quite have time for at the moment. Considering the possible damages, I am not inclined to try re-enabling the sound card until there is some kind of a definitive fix.
