KDE Manjaro: Window flashes once when closing apps (after update)

Hi,

I’m new to this forum and I’m not very experienced with Manjaro OS. Yesterday, after a fresh install of Manjaro KDE, I ran an update. Since then, whenever I close an application window, it flashes once before closing. I have no idea what’s causing this.

I tried checking Desktop Effects and playing around with them, but I haven’t had any success. I’m posting my specifications below as a screenshot. Also, see a video of the behavior via:

Closing application window was very smooth before update. I wonder what is causing this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Much thanks!

Mod edit:- Please read the following post.

And that has now been removed.
Please avoid posting pictures of text.

Your video was also uneccessary, your description was sufficient. However, your video gave no indication of the flashing you described, and has also been removed.

While basic information might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s best to ask your system directly using the inxi command:

[MiniHowTo] Provide system Information

Output of the inxi command will generate information useful for those wishing to help. Suggested inxi command (use either):

inxi -zv8 (short-form)
inxi --filter --verbosity=8 (long-form)
inxi man pages (manual)

Running inxi within a chroot environment:

  • Add --color=0 to the long-form command, or…
  • Change the short-form command to inxi -zv8c0

Your privacy is respected:

Code or command output should be placed within a scrollable pre-formatted text enclosure, according to forum guidelines: :eyes:

[MiniHowTo] Present code or command output

Note: Grave accent (or, backtick) characters are used. :eyes:

For inline code or to show a single command:

  • please follow this simple example: code here.

For multi-line command output:

  • place text beween two rows of three (```) backtick characters to form a scrollable text box, or …
  • use the </> button in the Compose window to achieve the same result.

The empty row between these rows of backtick characters is where to paste any multi-line command output (such as inxi).

An example of a pre-formatted text enclosure:

What is a Quark?

A. In Physics, an elementary particle and fundamental constituent of matter.
B. A character from the Star Trek: "Deep Space Nine" television series.
C. A soft, creamy, usually unsalted cheese traditional to central Europe.

I’ve been noticing this since the upgrade as well

I don’t notice any such flashing or flickering.

However, that’s on my main system. For the sake a little experimentation, I performed a fresh install in VMware Workstation, and yes – it’s barely noticeable – but I can confirm this with at least a few of the applications tested.

Until the OP has at least provided their inxi output, we can do little more than speculate.

U did try this one ?

→ Open System settings → Animations → Change under Desktopanimations the field Open/Close to something else and save or apply. Then back again to its original state. Save again.

I experienced the same problem, and it has come up multiple times on the forum.

Can you link to any of those multiple times?

I can’t recall seeing anything mentioned in recent history.

You’re right. Most topics are about flickering in general. The only one that comes close is this one:

I’m quite sure it was discussed here and there, but I can’t find anything about it anymore. It was after the big update, though :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I don’t immediately know what could be causing it. My experience is that the animations may change and could cause a small flicker depending on your GPU.

To fine tune this - Go to System Settings → Animations → adjust them and Apply

Worked for me. Thanks.

@ Lunix…
I had this issue too. This is the solution.

I could speculate that it might be related to the Nvidia 580xx series driver, but at this point the OP hasn’t provided their inxi output as requested, so :man_shrugging:

And they didn’t provide enough information for a vague guess.

What you suggest may well work around the problem, but of course it won’t be a solution to the problem, and can’t be while the cause is unknown.

Thanks. This worked out.
