Kate don't start after last update

It doesn’t work, sorry

What is strange, I have no issue on the other devices… kio are not the same…
I would like to remove kio-git but it will be brake a lot of software… I mean it uninstall a lot of software…

My x86 64 computer with kio

An other x86 64 computer with kio

Install kio and it will ask you to replace kio-git with kio.
But you need to do this for each -git package you have installed.

Hi, OK I try

it doesn’t work… strange issue

during my update every software are close, I think it’s better

As I said, you need to do it for all the -git packages in the same go.

Try with pacman instead of Pamac.

If I remove kio git kio

[nicolas@nls-pc ~]$ sudo pacman -S kio
warning: config file /etc/pacman.conf, line 99: directive 'IgnorePkg' in section 'multilib' not recognised.
resolving dependencies...

:: removing kio-git breaks dependency 'kio-git' required by kinit-git
:: removing kio-git breaks dependency 'kio-git' required by knewstuff-git
[nicolas@nls-pc ~]$

If I don’t remove kio git kio

[nicolas@nls-pc ~]$ sudo pacman -S kio
warning: config file /etc/pacman.conf, line 99: directive 'IgnorePkg' in section 'multilib' not recognised.

[nicolas@nls-pc ~]$

Add kdeclarative kinit knewstuff to the pacman line and say yes to all.

Is it correct ?

sudo pacman -S kio kdeclarative kinit knewstuff

Very strange

[nicolas@nls-pc ~]$ sudo pacman -S kio kdeclarative kinit knewstuff
[sudo] password for nicolas:

Add ksysguard libksysguard too.

You see the idea yet?

Thanks a lot

something like that ?

sudo pacman -S kio kdeclarative kinit knewstuff ksysguard libksysguard

Yeah, and keep adding packages it complains about.

no chance

Again, add plasma-systemmonitor

You should really be able to see a pattern here you know.

I removed plasma-system monitor right now…
I installed this software in the past, but not on the other x86 64 devices, it explain why I have no issue on the other devices with kate !

The boot don’t pass the login and password, it’s frozen, it is not a joke, I’m not lucky with plasma system monitor
Don’t worry, I have my UEFI usb stick with Manjaro
The problem is solve, don’t install plasma-system monitor !
Thanks a lot for your help all you guys

I did update and Kate is working normally. Start Kate in Terminal and see if it reports any problems. Also check if removing
/home/usercache/kate
changes anything.
Also in
/home/userconfig/
there are some configuration files that contain kate in their name. Move them to another location and see if Kate starts after that.

Also google for this error:

kate: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libKF5TextEditor.so.5:

For example

thanks a lot, but it’s to late, I keep this post, for sure !
have a good day.

I had the same issue. The problem was indeed related to the *-git versions of some packages. First I restored a timeshift snap from before the update. In my case, I think I installed them to try the System monitor in February, replacing the original packages. To replace all of them:

  1. With expac I checked when I installed the plasma-systemmonitor-git package
expac --timefmt='%Y-%m-%d %T' '%l\t%n' | grep plasma-systemmonitor-git
  1. Removed the package (replace yay for sudo pacman if necessary):
yay -R plasma-systemmonitor-git
  1. Used this date to replace all the packages installed in that day, change date accordingly and run first without the yes | bit to be sure:
yes | yay -S plasma-systemmonitor $(expac --timefmt='%Y-%m-%d %T' '%l\t%n' | sort | grep "2021-02-09" | grep git | cut -d " " -f2 | trim | cut -d " " -f2 | cut -d- -f1 | xargs)
  • trim being (save somewhere in PATH and chmod +x it, tried to add the source but wouldn’t let me post a link??):
#!/bin/bash
awk '{$1=$1};1'
  1. Update as usual

Hope it works, cheers!
