KDE hotspot provides no internet connection

I can enable the hotspot by clicking the hotspot icon in Plasmas Networks Applet.
The hotspot allows my android/iphone to connect, but does not provide any internet connection.

But hotspot works flawlessly on my colleague’s GNOME with the same hardware and OS.

I don’t remember the exact date when this problem appeared. Probably after [Stable Update] 2022-11-14 - Kernels, GNOME 43.1, Plasma 5.26.3, Systemd 251.8, Firefox 106.0.5, Thunderbird, LXQt,
because I see @rolandd reported the same problem.

Maybe your device does not support this?

Do you have a firewall?

My wireless adapter is Atheros AR93xx, which is irrelevant to that note. Somebody said that the warning is harmless.

The system has only iptables with docker’s default rules. I haven’t manually configure it.

I checked the filter table:

…
Chain FORWARD (policy DROP)
…

I try chaning the default policy to ACCEPT for the FORWARD chain. The internet is accessible again!

$ sudo iptables -t filter -P FORWARD ACCEPT

Thanks for your suggestion!

EDITED
To keep the default DROP policy of the FORWARD chain, use the following rules in stead of changing the chain policy (refer to Setting up a NAT gateway):

$ sudo iptables -A FORWARD -m conntrack --ctstate RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
$ sudo iptables -A FORWARD -i wlp3s0 -j ACCEPT

wlp3s0 is my wireless interface, replace it with actual name.

To preserve the rules after every boot, append them into /etc/iptables/iptables.rules, then enable the iptables systemd service.

Thank you, thank you. Your solution also solved my problem. Somehow I never thought of checking iptables.
