Issues with sound on fresh installation

Hello :vulcan_salute: I am new and today I installed Manjaro with the XFCE environment. I also generally do not have much experience with Linux. I switched from Windows at the beginning of the year and have since then just for fun tested a few Distros to find out what I like. So please bear with me if I ask some stupid questions :sweat_smile:.

Unfortunately I have a problem with my sound. As soon as I watch videos I have sometimes random sound drops outs. The video continues but the sound just stops for a moment and later starts again in sync with the video. This happens both when I watch videos on youtube via the browser and offline with the VCL player. I’ve tried different players, different video formats and different browsers and it’s always the same. I have also changed the kernel from 5.15.41-1 to 5.17.9-1 no difference. Interestingly I played Rimwolrd today for about an hour and there the sound ran without issues. Also strange is that when I boot into the liveboot via the USB stick I have no problems with the sound there. When I open Youtube in the liveboot everything runs perfectly. So it seems that the problem appeared after installation.

Unfortunately, that was not the issue. The firmware was already installed and up to date. I nevertheless reinstalled it and restarted the computer. Unfortunately, there was no change.

hi Exoomo,

I’m new to Manjaro XFCE & arch,
I’ve been reading the ArchWiki…

Composite manager…

This compositor may cause video tearing in applications, see #Video tearing.

Video tearing

To enable or disable the Xfwm compositor and adjust its settings, go to Window Manager Tweaks:

$ xfwm4-tweaks-settings

could it be that, that’s causing your sound problems ?
