Issues running an EXE with Wine

Hey guys,

New to Manjaro, and I LOVE this OS man!
I know a little about Linux but not much.

I installed winetricks and the wine dependencies but winetricks is not loading, and an .exe i have is not recognized by it.

sudo pacman -Sy playonlinux
:: Synchronizing package databases…
core is up to date
extra is up to date
community is up to date
multilib is up to date
error: target not found: playonlinux

What’s the way you found (that works)?
Or some other dependency is needed before that?

PS: All i’m seeking is wine to work and i saw this is a good GUI to run it.
Pls correct me if i am not thinking the right way.

Perhaps “bottles” is a better alternative
or proton - or other things …
which might be the best choice depends on what executable you want to run
(game, “regular” application …)

playonlinux can’t be installed via pacman
because it is only available from AUR
and pacman does not deal with AUR - use pamac or yay or some other AUR helper for that

Another option is Lutris, playonlinux is showing its age.

@Nachlese,

No games! I am looking to run regular applications including MS Word from my Windows dir.
Also to open .exe regular apps, .bat files, etc.

It’s for regular apps, .bat files, etc.

Lutris will run almost anything with wine, and a lot wine wont. Its not just for games.
