Is There A Way To Upgrade to v21 from v20 Without Having to do a New Install?

Hello all, my first post. I’ve read that I should provide information, so lets get that done…

Right then, on to my question. I’ve just installed Manjaro Cinnamon 20.2-201208 yesterday to a BTRFS ssd, and got it all set up. Now I see that 21-210320 is was just made available today, and I’d very much like to upgrade.

Is there a way to do that from my existing setup in 20.2, without having to do a wipe and a new installation again in order to run 21-210320 ? I have searched the forum, but did not really find anything that would apply.

Edited Update: BTW, I did try doing a sudo pacman -Syyuu but that did not result in pulling in any upgraded system files.

TIA !

You don’t need reinstalling Manjaro, just update – you’ll always have fresh system. v21 is only ISO refreshing, it isn’t same as new release of Debian, Ubuntu or other point release distro. Anyway if you want to know current codename and release you can use lsb_release -a.

Just run ‘sudo pacman -Syyu’ from terminal & u will b upgraded to the latest version, v21 in this case.
If there is no update available then u r probably on the latest version.

Well, well, I learn something new every day, and that’s a good thing! Thanks, and the result of that command is:

|LSB Version:|n/a|
|---|---|
|Distributor ID:|ManjaroLinux|
|Description:|Manjaro Linux|
|Release:|21.0|
|Codename:|Ornara|

I don’t know how, or when that happened, but the only thing I can think of is when I grabbed all the updates yesterday right after the fresh install.

Excellent, I’m loving this Distro much more than Arch proper, which I ran for the last 3 years.

I appreciate you taking the time to educate me on this, Thanks!!

Manjaro 21 iso is out now…you could have used that to avoid massive updates.

Yes, as I added at the end of my OP, I did the -Syyuu command, but got nothing, so it had to have happened yesterday right after the install, when I grabbed all the update packages.

Nice to know that Manjaro is a true rolling distro!!!

The Cinnamon flavor of 21 was not available yesterday at 1AM, so I used the latest stable version that was there. IMHBCO, the cinnamon flavor was just made available within the last few hours, right??

AFAIK, the updates were already available since last week. The latest packages were packaged into the iso very recently.

Community isos are made available a little while after official flavours are released

What I meant was that I could not find an install iso for v21 in the cinnamon flavor yesterday. It was only in the available downloads just a while ago, because I’ve been checking since I learned of the v21 release.

In any event, I’m on 21 now, and happy about it!

Thanks to all for the input!
