Now we have community hub it would be ideal to have a such thread in there. Make it a mega-thread so it only pop up once and will not interfere so much with the search engine (I dunno if threads in community hub appear in the search results).
My experience is that people find inspirations in both themes and DE/WM to try out.

One of the reasons the archived.forum.manjaro.org exist is probably caused by the large usage of images.
While the forum threads was easily recovered the images was not recovered and a decision was made to limit the usage of images.
