Thanks

It sounds like the same issue reported in this thread or certainly something similar

I’m running cinnamon on testing branch with no issues wondering if something got missed on the stable branch

Yes it’s looks like a real bug.
I have not the level to correct it

Think @oberon maintains cinnamon maybe he can have a look if something got missed on stable update

Edit

I know some extensions /applets aren’t compatible with the new cinnamon release yet. Do you have anything installed? Might be worth looking at that if you have

For now, it’s really a fresh install and update.
I just add vim, nothing more

For the record,
I downgrade the core to linux 5.15 LTS.
It’s works… but i lost wifi, reason why i change to Linux 5.18.
I will stay with this for now.

Edit :
The error show up again after some reboot.
I update core to 1.17, it’s works again for 2/3 reboots, and get the error again !
Very strange

Have you tried enabling lightdm after you start it?
systemctl enable lightdm

Sadly this not working.
Here the status before i run manually lightdm

This works : systemctl start lightdm

Since you can start lightdm.service later, have you tried putting in a delay in the /usr/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service file? To do that put this in the [Service] section at the top
ExecStartPost=/bin/sleep 5
The 5 is how many seconds it will delay, you may have to make it shorter or longer, but no more than 8-10 seconds would be the most I would try.

systemd is really nonsense!

The error message appears, I wait, then the GUI starts!
But the error message should logically not be displayed, since there is a delay.

At least you see the login screen without having to type in a start command.

If the wait and error bother you, you could start the system without a display manager. Just disable lightdm in sytstemctl and put exec cinnamon-session in ~/.xinitrc. Then login in and type startx to start cinnamon.

I will keep the delay option,
Nevertheless, it seems to me really abnormal that such a simple thing doesn’t work out of the box in all cases.
