Internet limited to 25MiB on download

Hello there!

I just recently started using Manjaro after getting fed up with windows 11 and after trying Pop Os and not liking it

i got a problem with my network and it is that it is limited to 25MiB i tried a lot of things already but it seems i got no solution for it when i download anything it gets limited to 25mbps download even tho i got a 200mbps connection hope someone can help me and i will provide anything requested [ethtool stuff or anything that someone can use to help me out in this case]

Thanks!

[edit 3]

so i decided to reset my OS [once again] to roll back anything stupid i tried to do before to solve this problem here’s what i’ve done so far [and will include some info]

installed on open source drivers
changed to kernel linux518
changed to r8168 [same result same speed in r8169 too]
blacklisted r8169 so r8168 loads [still didnt change anything on the speed
installed ethtool

now for the info since i did a reset on the OS so it might have changed

i deleted the last two edits since now with this new info they are obsolete and so the post doesnt become that long

here’s a picture of how it looks in system monitor when im using the internet while downloading a game

The r8168 is a fine card - which works - most well. I have firsthand experience with one of my laptops.

There’s two options - use driver r8169 supported by kernel or use the kernel extra package r8168.

If you run inxi -N and the driver in use is r8168 and you have the package linuxXYY-r8168 installed you may get better result by using the kernel driver.

Remove the package and reboot the system.

sudo pacman -R linuxXYY-r8168

Thanks for the quick answer!

for what i see i dont have the linuxXYY-r8168 one i checked inxi -N and it says im using r8169 [got surprised by that since i remember i was using r8168 but well] and still the same speeds, i hope you can help me out here since i see you have experience with this card, ill provide anything you need to see if we can solve this issue.

[the output from inxi -N]:
inxi -N
Network:
Device-1: Intel Cannon Lake PCH CNVi WiFi driver: iwlwifi
Device-2: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
driver: r8169

When pasting terminal output, add three backticks ` OR 3 tilde ~ above and below the text:

I did it this time for you. Please do it like this in the future.

Thank you :bowing_man:

Seems this is off. This function is for choosing common parameters which both sender and receiver understand… so it compare and choose the highest mode possible.

Example:

	Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
	                        100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
	                        1000baseT/Full
Advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only
	Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
	Advertised FEC modes: Not reported
Link partner advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
	                                     100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Link partner advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only
	Link partner advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Link partner advertised FEC modes: Not reported

thanks for the reply!

tried turning it on using ethtool and got a netlink error: operation not permitted

[edit]

my bad i didnt use sudo ill try rebooting and seeing if the speed increases now

MiB/s != Mbps (MiB = mebibyte)
25 * 8 = 200, so you get the full line rate. What are you complaining about?
