Intermittent issue playing video files after update

it looks ok, so exit chroot:
exit
reboot and boot normally and see if everything is working

Thank you very much! I rebooted and manged to boot into the manjaro install successfully. I also tried now to play videos again, but unfortunately this issue still exist. Do you have any suggestion how to fix it?
Maybe I should try this:

Try removing manjaro-pulse, including unnecessary dependencies such as pulseaudio-bluetooth, first:

sudo pacman -Rns manjaro-pulse

then install manjaro-pipewire:

sudo pacman -Syu manjaro-pipewire

? as suggested earlier by @scotty65

you can try, but first, are you on wayland? if yes switch to xorg, or vice versa… and try playing a video…
if it still doesnt wotk on xorg resp wayland, try different kernel…

How can I check if I’m on wayland or xorg? and how can I switch between them?

log out, and there should be some settings icon there and there you should be able to change between wayland and xorg…

I tried logging out, but there wasn’t any settings icon that I could see.
I also tried the commands you suggested and goth this output:

Yes, the output of this command was wayland, but I still didn’t manage to find out how to switch between wayland and xorg from the logout screen, I don’t think there is such an option on my logout screen, but maybe somehow I missed it, although that seems unlikely.

reboot and on the login screen:

Click on the gear icon (⚙️) or session selector next to your username.

and there select gnome on xorg …

After rebooting I did find this button (it doesn’t exist when just logging out). There were 4 option there (I don’t remember all of them, I can check this again if needed), there was gnome on xorg which is what I choose and there was also gnome classic on xorg which I didn’t choose. Unfortunately switching to xorg doesn’t help with the videos problem. Btw I also every once in a while (maybe once every hour or two) get a black screen for a second. It doesn’t really bother me too much because it’s short and not very frequent, but maybe that’s also something to take into consideration.

ok, so post output from:

install a newer kernel and try with it:
sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux612

do you have a grub menu shown during boot?

I’m not sure if I have a grub menu during boot. Should I first check it and if so how to check, or should I first do the sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux612 command as you suggested?

so are you dual booting with windows? if not then there is probably not a grub menu shown during boot… first install the newer kernel, then open this file:
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
and edit this line to look like this:
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=menu
its the third line from top, save the file with: ctrl+x, update grub:
sudo update-grub
reboot and now a menu will appear, and under advanced options select the 6.12 kernel, but dont select the fallback option, select the normal one, and switch back to wayland and test again

You are right I’m not dual booting with windows, so I didn’t have a grub menu. I did everything you suggested: when I got into the grub menu after reboot I chose the 6.12 kernel (normal no fallback) and I changed back to just Gnome (not gnome on xorg) as this is how I think it was when I had wayland earlier. But unfortunately the videos issues still persist even after using the newer kernel.

just to be sure check with:
uname -r
now create a new test user, reboot, log in with the new test user, and check… if there is still the same issue post logs:
journalctl -b0 -p5 --no-pager

The output of the first command you suggested is:

uname -r  ✔
6.12.34-1-MANJARO

And how can I create a test user? once I’m using this test user to check if the issue still exist, do I use the second command you suggested (journalctl) from the new test user or could I also do it from the regular user?

i dont use gnome, but it should be somewhere under settings in gnome… check if there is some setting named users or accounts…
you can post the journal output from the test user

O.k., so I manged to create a test user, but just before I try rebooting and using this test user, should I choose the 6.12 kernel in the grub menu again, or not do anything in the grub menu?
