Hello everyone. I have recently looked into hardware acceleration for video decoding, and I cannot figure out how to make it work on my Intel Iris Xe video card.

I have a quite a lot of questions, have made some experiments. Now Firefox crashes on pages with video. So here is my question, is there anyone who is willing to help me troubleshoot the issue?

How do I know hardware acceleration doesn’t work? I use intel_gpu_top, and it shows load only in rendering/3d section. Nothing in video decoding or processing section. I tried video in Firefox, Chrome and mpv.

You have a niche product and not many people have this hardware, so please read this:

Especially the section What’s this Upstream / Downstream business? and then redirect your question to the Intel Community where you’ll find many more people with your hardware…

:sob:

Thank you for the reply.

If you do find a solution, please don’t forget to come back and post about it so that the next person that has the same problem as you can benefit from your research!
