Second monitor doesn't work with 5.8.6-1 kernel update

It was working on 5.7.19-2. For some reason, I couldn’t boot the system on that Kernel, but 5.4.64-1 works quite well.

I’m not sure if it is a problem with the proprietary drivers or what it could be. This laptop is new and the second monitor never worked that well until I installed the proprietary drivers.

No driver is loaded for the nvidia gpu. First, you could try to reinstall video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-450xx-prime mhwd configuration. Do you use any software for gpu switching?

Regarding the software for GPU switching, not yet. I may in the future, as it seems the graphics are working only with the Intel GPU.

Regarding installing the driver, how could I do that? It appears as installed in the Manjaro GUI, and pressing the “auto install proprietary driver” doesn’t work (because it thinks it is installed)

Run sudo modprobe nvidia and then nvidia-smi. If that works, I recommend this guide.

I’ve tried with sudo mhwd -i pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-450xx-prime -f, to force the reinstall. From the messages it seems the installed driver may have been the one for linux 5.4 and not 5.8. It works now :smile:

What is the difference between doing that and your guide? Your guide seems for Switchable graphics, so I’ll follow it for that purpose once I have the time.

It lets you select which GPU renders the GUI. If the HDMI/etc. connector is connected to the nvidia gpu, then the simplest solution to use it is to switch to “nvidia” mode - let the nvidia gpu render the GUI while the intel gpu is powered down. If every output is connected to the intel gpu in your machine, then you don’t need it at all.
