Installation woes with unrecognized Hard Drive on new laptop

I want to install Manjaro but when I boot I 1. can’t connect to the internet and 2 (more importantly) it does not recognize my Hard disk. (checked through running lsblk in terminal) The non-recognition of my hard drive is a problem the windows 10 installer has as well. On Ubuntu it works just fine. How can I fix this so Manjaro can install?

Edit: I put this in the XFCE section since I used the XFCE iso

Here’s the output of sudo lshw done from my computer if it’s of any help in fixing this:

Something else to mention: This is especially strange since Arch recognizes it and I managed to get it to boot with systemd but it hangs on the start job

Have you formatted the drive before trying to do the installation. In my experience sometimes windows formatting things has made it difficult in the past for me. In the installation media you should be able to used gparted to wipe the drive, only if you want to. Also check in the bios to see is the drive is detected. I have had drives show that they did exist, but they have failed completely. Lastly if you are looking to dual boot forum.manjaroorg/t/root-tip-dual-boot-manjaro-and-windows/1164
this will help you out
put a dot between manjaro and org
Hope that helps , have a nice night

you should check your bios, make sure disks are set to sata.

Looks like you have an Intel RST. The “Fake Raid” or “firmware assisted Raid” need a special configuration. Better use just AHCI/SATA mode.

Seems then Ubuntu have a better auto config tool to manage a Intel RST Raid. Anyway… Firmware based Raids are dumb, because only one part is hardware based: Synchronization only just before any OS has been started. Anything else is still software raid.

Is there a way I can get email notifications? It caused me to forget about this for weeks and made me look like a real jerk abandoning a thread like this. Anyway I can’t find a way to change to AHCI mode in the UEFI. I took pictures somewhere I’ll try to send them. I had similar issues with reinstalling Windows 10 for a dual boot until I realized I needed the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver Installation Software with Intel® Optane™ Memory (10th and 11th Gen Platforms)driver. Now Windows 10 is installed and I’m configuring it and making it work (now onto the task of getting it to recognize my wifi card and that the touchpad exists.) The Problem is that Driver’s only available for Windows 10 so I’m kinda stumped about how I could get it working for Manjaro. When I was playing around with Arch enabling VMD in the modules array in mkinitcpio.conf and regenerating the initramfs fixed this. I’m not sure how I could do that for a live usb though. Any ideas?

Nice :+1: You found the solution yourself.

About the live usb: By adding it to the initramfs (mkinitcpio) you recreated the init image. This image can’t be changed on the installer ISO. You will have to recreate the ISO.

I haven’t done that before. How do I recreate the ISO? (Asking cause I’ve been trying with one of those other distros I’ve been considering Solus, to mount the initrd img I’ve run

> sudo mount -o loop /media/ubuntu/SolusLiveBudgie/boot/initrd.img ./initrd-tmp

from my Ubuntu live USB (the Solus USB is a different one and I’m doing this because I currently don’t have Linux on any of my computers since I got rid of Ubuntu to install Windows 10 for a dual boot on the laptop today) and I get an error like

> mount: /home/ubuntu/Documents/initrd-tmp: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop17, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.

How do I go about doing this?

Nevermind found something on linuxsecrets that’s very comprehensive called Remastering the Install ISO
