Install japanese fonts for cmatrix

How can I install japanese fonts so cmatrix -c works? It doesn’t currently on my system, only with ASCII characters.

It is a known issue. Here is a pull request, but this is not merged.

I modified cmatrix-git from AUR and added a patch. You can download from here.

I see, thank you. How do I apply the patch if I use pamac? I see some people opt for gomatrix, however requires to install go and that’s a lot of space.

I you took the effort to make the patch, I would recommend you to fork cmatrix to cmatrix2 or cmatrix-jap or something like that, and add it to AUR directly, so your package conflicts with cmatrix:
