D-Link DWA-171.. how to get it working? (And why does everything have to be so difficult)

Hey everyone,

New to Manjaro (was on Fedora first, but made some errors and a lot of applications I frequented randomly started crashing and got fed-up using it anyways, so decided to make the switch).

I’m having a lot of trouble with my initial set-up here. First the pacman package manager was not working in any proper way. Then I had troubles installing Git. Now next issue is getting the DWA-171 drivers. I just simply cannot get them to run.

I got the package from aur : rtl8814au-aircrack-dkms-git.git

But when trying to use makepkg I get the following error:
==> ERROR: Cannot find the fakeroot binary.
==> ERROR: Cannot find the strip binary required for object file stripping

Hello,

You need first to run
sudo pacman -S --needed base-devel

Also, since you try to install

You will have to install the linux-headers for your running kernel. The following command will install the linux-headers automatically for all installed kernels but you are better using a LTS kernel:

sudo pacman -S $(pacman -Qsq "^linux" | grep "^linux[0-9]*[-rt]*$" | awk '{print $1"-headers"}' ORS=' ')

Reboot and then run:
pamac build rtl8814au-aircrack-dkms-git

We do not know what ISO you installed from/what version, but usually a good practice is to refresh mirrors and make sure the system is fully updated.
sudo pacman-mirrors -f5 && sudo pacman -Syyu

If in trouble, we have a decent Manjaro wiki.

I get:

Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 5.15.2-2-MANJARO (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/rtl8814au/r94.bdf80b5/build/make.log for more information.
==> WARNING: `dkms install --no-depmod rtl8814au/r94.bdf80b5 -k 5.15.2-2-MANJARO’ exited 10

pamac build rtl8814au-aircrack-dkms-git

Have you read in the package page http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl8814au-aircrack-dkms-git ?
Maybe best then to build/install/use the AUR (en) - rtl8814au-dkms-git
pamac build rtl8814au-dkms-git

This install worked, but the perifiral still isn’t active.

After reboot, can you share the inxi -Fazy ?

but that is not rtl8814au
you need AUR (en) - rtl8723de-dkms-git
pamac build rtl8723de-dkms-git
