I'm trying to find the pathway to the wallpapers that come with Manjaro

I'd switched the wallpaper location last month to my downloads folder to set my downloaded wallpaper that I got off the internet , so could you provide me the pathway that could lead me to the Manjaro wallpapers.

The Manjaro Wallpapers?

Right click anywhere on the Desktop, choose β€œDesktop Settings” from the context menu
and then the β€œBackgrounds” tab.
click on β€œFolder” β†’ scroll down to β€œother”

The path is:
/usr/share/backgrounds/xfce

I’m on a default installation of the minimal edition - there are far less background options available from the get go -
just a few in /usr/share/backgrounds and /usr/share/backgrounds/xfce

The following path will likely prove less troublesome, but you will have to create it yourself (in your profile directory):

/home/levart/.local/share/backgrounds

Note the period before β€œlocal” - this makes it a hidden directory - to view hidden directories in your file manager use the β€œCtrl + h” keyboard shortcut to toggle visibility.

The advantage is that you will not need to concern yourself with permissions (needed for the /usr/share/.. heirarchy).

Simply dump your downloaded wallpapers into that directory and add that location through the GUI, if needed.

  • Right-click the Desktop:
    Desktop Settings β†’ Background β†’ Folder (Other).

  • Or, via the Applications menu:
    Settings β†’ Desktop β†’ Background β†’ Folder (Other).

  • Navigate to the newly created directory.

They are still there - unless he somehow uninstalled them.
He just somehow cant manage to find them.

Yes, that’s what he wanted.

The alternative might be more practical; easier to find, as well, because they would be creating the directory themselves.

As to why;

That will likely be filed under the sweet mysteries of life… We all know /usr/share/backgrounds exists; or, at least there’s no reason why it should not. :wink:

I’m assuming no wallpapers are installed to that location by default because they are not included on the minimal ISO… it helps to keep it… minimal.

That only adds to my growing list of; reasons to always download the full ISO. :facepalm:

It definitely is present there (in the minimal variant).
I know because I just recently reinstalled it into a VM
and looked at that before I wrote my reply.

…which was interesting, as I wasn’t aware of it.

I always use a full ISO, in any case, but I had no reason to believe that path wouldn’t be created; my assumption was (as you mentioned) that a minimal amount of wallpapers would be included; but, this is straying a little.

From Ubuntu to Arch…

/usr/share/ is where you get stuff installed. Just out of curiousity, with everyone confirming that they have a folder called β€˜Backgrounds’ - have you looked in the folder?

Mine’s called /usr/share/wallpapers.

~/.local/share/ is where YOUR files exist.

/mnt/T4/Resources/Backgrounds/ is where I kept mine for the last 11 years.

I’m sorry, I don’t use XFCE - but on Plasma it’s possible to open your background image, and from that you can open the source folder…

So check in your /usr/share/ for system stuff, you should see backgrounds or wallpapers in there somewhere…

And I have three separate VM’s - one Xfce, one Plasma, one Gnome.
Each one of them a default minimal installation.

I used to have Cinnamon as well.
Perhaps I’ll have that again some day.
