the solution from this link worked
followed the solution answer to get all the icons and tabbar back
NOTE:
- in the solution its mentioned
sudo pacman -Syubut instead dosudo pacman -Syuuand if there is an issue stating something like package conflict then dopacman -Syuu --overwrite '*'
