I3WM randomly "crashes"

I’m using the 21.2.6 I3-wm community edition, and love Manjaro as a distro, except for these weird “crashes” I seem to be encountering more and more often.

So the problem I’m having is, that the OS randomly “freezes” at times. I’m still able to move the cursor and play around with the active window using the keyboard, but can’t shift window focus or tabs in the web browser. I’ve tried every possible key combination and the solution is ultimately to just reboot the computer which is a tedious task…

Writing it out, it sure sounds an awful lot like the problem is with the window manager itself.
The i3 version I’m using is the 4.20.1 (2021-11-03).

Initially I thought it occurred whenever I pressed a combination of keys (particularly the multimedia keys) but after having it happen at random idk anymore.

Ran

journalctl --boot=-1 --priority=3 --catalog

which gave me

[x0rec@x0rec-Desktop ~]$ journalctl --boot=-1 --priority=3 --catalog

Not sure what to make of it (nor am I sure it’s the right log)

Happened again, here’s the log:

nobody??

Welcome.

I’ve also had this problem, and am eagerly awaiting replies. When it occurs, all I can do is REISUB. If you like, if it recurs, I can post my journals, too. It might also help to add your inxi.

See this thread:

Cheers,

R

I see, so we’re both basically doomed as nobody can figure it out?

Seems like it’s an uncommon/yet unencountered problem, guess I’ll be switching then… Sad because I really enjoyed everything else about manjaro

It would help you to get help if you post your inxi, as in the tutorial. Otherwise no one knows enough to suggest anything.
