Snap does not work with kernel 6.8

Hi!

I noticed I’m not able to run snap anymore.
I get this error:

error: system does not fully support snapd: cannot mount squashfs image using "squashfs": mount:

it then relates to /dev/loop<X> stating that it cannot be mounted or is being used by something else.
squashfs is correctly loaded and I can mount squashfs filesystems without issues.

Should snap be updated? Does this depend on the kernel? I’m using 6.8.1

Holy smokes! We got ourselves a timelord here!

Hasn’t even been released yet in 2024. Maybe 2026 or 2028, but not yet my time-travelling brother!

 6.8.1 Sorry…

Latest version of snapd (2.61.3-1) was included in Testing update 2024-03-16

Always ensure your system is up-to-date before creating a topic relating to problems.

sudo pacman -Syu
sudo pacman -Syu squashfs

Could be an hanging mount - did you restart your system?

Do you have a backup kernel - e.g. linux66?

I confirm that it works with linux 6.7.10 but not with 6.8 series.

Yes, it is. My original message was in the thread for Announcement/Testing updates, so it was clear that the system is up-to-date, being this something I spot following an update.

I just spot it too late  It must be already not-working since the moment I switched to the newer kernel.

Same behavior here. snapd works with 6.6 and 6.7 but is not working with 6.8

just tried with kernel 6.8.3 from today’s testing update: it works again!

What is the kernel version that is working? I’m on 6.8.3-1 and it’s broken.

@mikaka27 are you on snap 2.61.3? What if you reinstall it? What if you empty /var/lib/snapd?

I’m on 2.61.2, I’m on stable branch.

>>> snap --version

can you try installing 2.61.3 from testing?
just switch temporarily to testing branch:

pacman-mirrors -B testing -a
pacman -Syy
pacman -S snap
pacman-mirrors -B stable -a
pacman -Syy

Just updated the kernel to the 6.8.3 it was telling me was available, because 6.7 went eol.

All other packages are set to stable, and up to date.

I switched to 2.61.3 and no change:

$ sudo snap refresh:

mount: /tmp/syscheck-mountpoint-391792581: /dev/loop13 already mounted or mount point busy.

I’m about as deep into this as I want to be. I’m just a user. I created an account here to +1 that there is an issue. Snaps aren’t critical to my workflow, so I can wait, or revert kernel if I have to.

so, it works on testing but not on stable.

I bet it depends on some fuse libs.

I won’t have time to look into that this week, maybe someone else can jump in? it would be interesting to try upgrading some fuse packages from testing…

The accepted solution doesn’t work for me.

Downgraded to snap 16-2.61.2 and Kernel 6.7.12-1 to get snaps working again.

I am also facing the same issue.
