I can't update packs because allegedly I don't have enough free space

@Ruslan
Having /boot completely full will prevent system upgrades from being completed, where a kernel update is involved.

It’s worth checking which kernels you have accumulated:

mhwd-kernel -li

Newer kernels are requiring increasing amounts of space lately, so I’d suggest a bigger boot e.g. 1G should you decide to re-do the installation.

512 MB should be enough for 2 or three kernels, but not much more.
It’s enough though.
The fallback initrd is particularly large.

Please provide system information as described (below);

System Information

For Support purposes it’s best to ask your system directly; the inxi command will achieve this (formatted according to forum guidelines) and will be generally useful to those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

Pardon, I won’t provide the sensible info

That command will not leak private info.
I guess it depends on what you consider sensible info.
It’s used here and elsewhere all the time.
But you can use a different variant, different set of options and filters.

see the manual page:

Ubuntu Manpage: inxi - Command line system information script for console and IRC

right after the section “Description”

At least linux614 is no longer available and can go - it even needs to go.

I’d install a recent LTS kernel and perhaps one more - the newest maybe.

No need for three.

The definition of sensible:

done or chosen in accordance with wisdom or prudence; likely to be of benefit.

According to that definition, you’re doing admirably.

If, however, you meant sensitive, you can rest assured that command scrubs all sensitive info while keeping the sensible. As an example, here’s mine:

$ inxi -zv8

You’ll have to delete a couple of kernels. As @Nachlese said earlier, 512 MiB is enough for two kernels, but not for four — especially not if you have a fallback initramfs in addition to the regular one for each of those kernels.

Kernel 6.14 is either way no longer supported, so you should remove that one right away. 6.1, 6.6 and 6.12 are LTS kernels, but I would recommend dropping at least 6.1 as well, and maybe 6.6 too if you plan on installing one of the mainline non-LTS kernels later.

6.12 should be a keeper, because it’s the most recent LTS, and it’s a good one.

Another thing you could do to save space in /boot is disable the creation of fallback initramfs images. For this, you need to edit the .preset files under /etc/mkinitcpio.d/ for every kernel you wish to keep, and comment out all of the lines starting with fallback.

Actually, you only need to edit this line:
PRESETS=('default' 'fallback')
and remove the “fallback” keyword

like so:
PRESETS=('default')

To save the space, you’d still need to remove the already existing fallback images “by hand” - this will only apply to newly created images.

Yes, that too. I forgot about that, because it has been quite some time since I did that on my system. :wink:

Pardon, perhaps I shall not provide any sensible support.

However, consider this;

… without such information, we would not have necessarily known that you are using kernel 6.14 which reached EOL in June this year, and is therefore unsupported by Manjaro.

We also would not have known that your system BIOS seems out of date and consequently nobody might have suggested checking the manufacturer website for an update.

There are any number of potential contributors to any given issue which providing system information could have helped with, but you deny it without any clear logic.

Lastly, consider this also;

as well as the link given for further information:

What this means is simple; we cannot discern anything from the inxi output that could be used to identify you; as long as personally identifiable information is filtered from the output, as it clearly is using either --filter or -z in the command.

Regards.

I’ll try it, I guess

What should I do with others, leave or delete?

System:
  Kernel: 6.14.6-2-MANJARO arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 15.1.1

Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

I removed all kernels except for 612.

After that, I ran a command sudo update-grub and reboot. Now, pack manager makes updates.

I’ve just one more clarification. Are you sure that manjaro doesn’t use fcitx pack by default?

I use KDE.

Gemeni says the following:

In KDE on Manjaro, the input framework typically used is Fcitx5, especially for handling non-Latin input methods

I also use Plasma, and I don’t even have it installed:

$ pamac search --installed

So I’m relatively sure.

If you read this carefully,

  • it might say that KDE Fcitx5 is used only “for processing non-Latin input methods.”
  • That might mean it’s only installed when needed to handle non-Latin input methods.
  • It might also mean it’s not installed by default.

And since an AI’s answers are truly reliable :rofl: , it might not mean anything at all because Gemeni might have guessed incorrectly.

It is not installed by default, because it’s only needed for bidirectional input — people requiring right-to-left input in addition to left-to-right.

However, it has been erroneously pulled in as a dependency of another package on some systems with multiple locales installed during one of the previous updates, which is why many people had it on their systems.

The people affected were not only using Plasma. Many were using GNOME or Xfce.

no need to hide…
