I broke my machine during an update

Hello,

I had a Manjaro installed on my Dell Inspiron 3576 Laptop since late 2023. When I was updating using the Graphic Update Manager on Gnome, the update manager is closed suddenly. I don’t know what caused the abrupt close. I can’t start a new update due a locked database.

I have rebooted the computed, but I don’t start. Now the computer inform the kernel is not found or caught kernel panic on error to mount boot partition.

I will use the weekend to format my computer and reinstall Manjaro…

Before choosing to reinstall, I think it’s not too late to read the following URL.
I believe the writer has no ill intentions. However, depending on the case, you may feel that it is not a joke, but I think it will be very helpful.

Extra note:

Maybe it’s pamac gui?

It crashes occasionally.
But I don’t know if the Manjaro Team is doing any validation.

One of the problems for users is that the upgrade is often proceeding behind the scenes even after the crash. It’s too late now, but in this case, wait until the CPU is idle.

Or start top or something and check if the upgrade is proceeding.

I can’t start a new update due a locked database.

The same goes for this, wait.
Do not reboot. Wait 5 minutes and it should be fine.

For reference, updating a system component while it’s being used is never a bright idea.

A better alternative is to login to a TTY before logging into the Display Environment, and performing the update from there. Search the forum; there are plenty of posts mentioning this.

Checking the Update Announcements before performing an update will also give an indication of whether system packages might be a part of any particular update.

Regards.
