I cleaned the print heads with the HPLIP control panel, aligned the heads etc.
When I print anything from the computer (Manjaro xfce), the text has shadows as if I was trying to print 3D text. It hurts my eyes to try to read it.
But when I make a copy using only the printer’s scanner - it prints the text correctly.
I’ve been using this printer for several years and the shadow text only started a few weeks ago.
I reinstalled HPLIP 3.22.2 according to manjaro and other help sites, it didn’t help; and then installed 3.18 because of pamac install note for HPLIP which didn’nt work either.
Before posting the problem here, I posted it on the HPLIP support website on 3-18-22, they have not responded back with any question or comment as of yet.
Since the printer prints text as it should without the shadow text when making a copy on the printer without any input from the computer, I thought it may be a problem with the text signal getting to the printer from the PC. Images and objects print as they should as well from the PC.
I’ve looked on several web sites, including Manjaro and Arch and I cannot get anyone’s solutions to work.
Here is a printer test page of the corrupted text.
I suppose I’m ignorant of this forum’s preferred procedures or I’m so technical minded that I understand your instruction exactly as you wrote it instead of how you may have intended it.
So, my question andreas85 is when I clicked on the 3 dots below my post and selected the pencil, it took me back to my original post. If I post INXI results there, it will either post over and erase the 1st post or append to the 1st post. Then I and everyone who looks at this will have to constantly go the top of the thread every time to see my next post. Is that what this forum wants? I’m not trying to be hard to get along with, just trying to understand.
I printed text with these: Libreoffice writer, mousepad, onlyoffice and Firefox.
The image I printed with gimp had text within the image and the image and text in the image were both shadow text and shadow image. Do you want me to import both original image and scan of the printed image? I scanned the image with Xsane (on the same printer) at 600dpi because HP manager is not working.
The same shadow text and shadow image happens when I printed a pdf with qpdfview 0.4.18
Every printing seems to be affected no matter what program
Images (gimp) are affected
However, the colored squares do not appear to be affected (weird)
The printing process goes from the program through cups, then ends up in the printer driver and is finally transferred to the printer.
Depending on the variant of the driver, the print image is rendered on the PC or lastly in the printer.
Did you set up the PDF printer driver?
(which could now help with the analysis)
Then you could repeat the same print processes, not specify your printer as the target, but a pdf file. You can then view the PDF file with Okular.
The question would be whether the shadows are already in the PDF file. If so, you have to look further at cups.
Oh yes, please take also a look at the printer properties in the printer management
And please try to remove the power from the printer for a few minutes
Also you could try a reset of the printer (if possible)
Have you tried to print from a different computer ?
(this would exclude the printer as source of the trouble)
Yes, the PDF printer driver is already setup and I’ve been using it for some time.
I couldn’t upload the pdf file I created from mousepad, but it doesn’t have shadow text.
I have tried to reset the printer by turning power off several times, plus I don’t leave it on 24/7 either, it is
turned off every night.
I just printed a single sentence from my manjaro xfce laptop and it is shadow text as well. Here is what it looks like from the scanned image.
I also made a “COPY” of a page of text with the same printer, which scans the text then instantly prints it - without going to the computer at all. I have done this with the usb cable completely unplugged from the printer. The copied - printed text did not have shadows - it is perfect as it should be. But any text or image that is printed from either computer is incorrectly shadowed.
I do not use the printer’s power button, my printer power cable is plugged into a power strip/lightening arrester which I turn off every night.
I posted this problem on HP’s support website on the 18th of this month and the post is still “open” but nobody has asked me anything or commented at all since then. Who knows, they might not be able to help either. I may have to get another printer since this is an old printer.
I’ll have to download a manual if I can find one for the “Reset” option.
Thank you andreas85 very much for your help and guidance to my next step in this problem.
Since there is no solution as of yet - should I leave this question open just in case someone comes up with a solution?
