I installed Fallout 3 through Lutris using the suggested mods included with the installer. It was a fairly automatic process. The game seemed to run okay at first except all of the animations were moving extremely fast. I reinstalled the game and now I’m having a problem with the sound playing correctly, it’s jumpy and glitchy, and the game almost never wants to run. When I click continue or try to load a save the game almost instantly crashes. Sometimes it starts and runs okay besides the music! Not sure what to do.

That is a well known issue. You just need to cap the framerate, it doesn’t like running over 60 fps. On a 60Hz monitor turn on Vsync, otherwise there is Fallout Stutter Remover (which might already be installed by Lutris).

I forgot to make it clear that the animations were cleared up after the second install. When the game runs it seems like everything works fine except for the music and some other audio tracks now. That’s if I can even get it to run, I tried 10+ times to load a game last night and it crashed every time.

No idea. You originally had one problem which should be easy to fix. Now you have many more complicated problems. I suggest starting over and fix the original problem.

My original post isn’t clear enough and that is my bad. The music problem still persisted in the original install.

I’m sorry, I don’t know then. I don’t use Lutris myself but I’ve played Fallout 3 on Manjaro through Steam+Proton and had no major problems.

Latest report on ProtonDB, just a week ago, is also from a Manjaro user saying it works fine.

You might have better luck asking for help on the Lutris forums - https://forums.lutris.net/

Thank you for the help. What’s worked for me in the end is running Proton through Lutris, actually.

This is not the way!

I present to you the words of the GloriousEggroll:

wine-ge-custom is meant to be used with non-steam games outside of Steam.

For Steam games, I provide Proton-GE for usage with Lutris, found here:

GitHub - GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom: Compatibility tool for Steam Play based on Wine and additional components

In that regard, also do not use Valve Proton with anything outside of Steam.

I’m using ProtonGE 8-11, but I can download wine-ge-custom. What difference does it make if it works, though? lutris-ge Proton wasn’t working previously.

Edit: Now I’ve installed lutris-ge 8-17, crashes unless I disable Lutris Runtime, which I did previously to use Proton-GE. Otherwise it seems to work great!

Second Edit: If anyone stumbles upon this thread and is wondering what the differences are between ProtonGE and WineGe then here you go.
