[HowTo] Disable Sponsored Sites (e.g. Ebay, Amazon) in the Url Bar by Opening a new Tab since Firefox 85.0.2

It might be. I don’t know. :man_shrugging:

Since trying doesn’t hurt I can confirm that toggling

browser.urlbar.suggest.topsites

brings back the sponsors…

Well, it’s confirmed then. and in an extremely obscure place…

Well, facerag’s certainly never been a ‘topsite’ in my book :-1: :innocent:

Yeah, fakebook was cool… WAS being the operative word…

Thanks @Mirdarthos for your input and @anon88624618 for trying different solutions.

I don’t want to misunderstand you but if I have correctly understood, setting browser.urlbar.suggest.topsites to false has solved the problem, hasn’t it?

If yes, is it enough or do you also need to have to set the following to false?

browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.showSponsored
browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.showSponsoredTopSites

Thanks again for your attention and your help!

Setting browser.urlbar.suggest.topsites to false seems to be enough to disable any suggestions inside the urlbar (if merely clicked into), but maybe this behaviour is unwanted in some usecases…
