How to show background applications on dash to panel?

I want to be able to see icons for background applications such as element or discord, so I can have their window closed but I am still able to quickly reopen it with a small icon.
This is achievable by default on vanilla gnome, but I can’t figure out how to do so on dash-to-panel.

This is what I am talking about, Imgur: The magic of the Internet , except I want it to be on the dash to panel bottom menu bar thing

  1. Enable the AppIndicator/KStatusNotifierItem extension.

  2. Go to dash to panel settings

  3. In the Fine-tune tab, disable Keep original gnome-shell top panel.

Now you should have the running indicator in dash to panel. I am not aware of any method in which you can have both the default top panel and the running indicator in the dash to panel simultaneously.
