Probably the most common cause of Cinnamon Desktop crashes are caused by Applets, Desklets or extensions but specifically the lack of properly keeping Applets, Desklets and extensions updated.
In Linux Mint, Applets, Desklets and Extensions are all updated via the software updater, but outside of the Linux Mint environment, it is very important to keep these updated.
The easiest way is to use another applet called Spices Update, this will monitor all of the Applets, Desklets and Extensions for updates and notify you when updates are available. These are stored in user space so if the system has multiple users, they must update individually.
This will be included in the next ISO of DeLinuxCo.
To add the Applet, go to System Settings, select Applets, then select the “Download” tab, search for Spices and select the download arrow.
Then select the “Manage” tab and search for Spices once again, select the Applet and click the “plus” button to add the applet to the system tray, then configure to your liking.
When updates are available, just click on the Spices menu item and it will take you to either the Applet, Desklet or Extensions accordingly, where you can run the update by clicking the Update button at the bottom of the respective window.
Cheers!
