How to apply pre-existing icon to a folder

So I am using the pre-available theme Papirus-Dark-Maia which stores its icons in /usr/share/icons/Papirus-Dark-Maia/ and it has a Github folder icon already in it. So, how can I use that in my Github folder in the home directory? I read in a few threads that we can't use external icons in XFCE, but what if it's already present?

I assume you're using Thunar since xfce. I know you can put emblems on folders but have never tried swapping out the actual folder icons. Similar but not the same.

  • Right click on folder
  • Select 'Properties'
  • Click 'Emblems' tab
  • Select desired emblem

Yeah I know about the emblems but I wanna change the folder icon. Why are the folder icons there in the pre-existing icon themes when we can't even use it?

Add the icon theme to ~/.icons or ~/.local/share/icons

Yead, did, but nothing changed. :frowning:
