I do this and get work and update overwrites all to back normal

Because you don’t do that by principle, because there was MANY safe and proper alternatives, because the package files may be different than the archive content and now you may have files the system don’t know about in your system. I didn’t say it would not work, but you should not do that.
It’s wrong because this’ll cause something to break.
