I am running Manjaro on a new laptop (Asus Zenbook UX3405M) and hibernation is not working. The laptop has 16GB of RAM and swap is the same size and on.

I am using KDE Plasma with Wayland. What happens is that the display freezes with the mouse pointer still visible but it doesn’t shut off. I have to perform a hard shutdown.
The second to last entry in the logs “kernel: PM: Image not found (code -16)” seems to be a pointer that I cannot make sense of. I’ve added the “resume” tag to the kernel command line with the swap UUID and updated grub.
Which other logs could be helpful?
inxi -zv8
would be nice - to see the configuration of the kernel command line, among other things
/etc/mkinitcpio.conf must contain the “resume” HOOK
and
the kernel command line must contain the "resume=UUID=your_swap_device_UUID" parameter

Perhaps your machine model has been mentioned here in the forum already with regards to hibernation?

I indeed misread the wiki page. I will add the hook to mkinitcpio.conf.

That kind of did it. However, the screen still freezes on hibernate and the laptop does not shut off (looks just like before). After restart, it then just loads the frozen screen again and I have to wait a couple of seconds for the system to become usable again. So hibernation did work, I just had to power off the machine manually. Any ideas?

Any ideas?
Me?
No.
But I think I saw your machine (or a similar one) mentioned here.
Did you look?

That was about a different issue when waking (some keys not working). I don’t have that issue.
I’m guessing that will be your problem. Not enough Swap to hibernate. Try 20 GB or possibly more.
For Hibernate to work, Swap needs to be larger than your RAM.

As I said earlier, hibernation works now. The laptop just doesn’t shut off after hibernation is complete.
As suggested, for hibernation to work effectively:
Then, hibernation hasn’t really completed, has it? I should think you might wish to rule out any possible contributors.
Rather than dismissing the idea completely, consider increasing your swap partition size and perhaps configuring zswap.
Regards.
