Help testing Nvidia drivers with Kernel 6.12

I’m running the 550.135 driver with Kernel 6.12.1-4, Wayland and a prime setup.
Card is a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060.
Everything works fine.

I can also confirm that the NVIDIA open source NVK (mesa) drivers work fantastic with this kernel if you want to go that route. Very easy. I believe NVK drivers have matured into “ready for prime time” status. You may want to check them out.

Just add a config to etc/modprobe.d/nouveau.conf

Install vulkan-nouveau.

Reboot.

The config command is:
nouveau.config=NvGspRm=1

I was trying to activate NVK drivers but when I run vulkaninfo thats the response:

ERROR: [Loader Message] Code 0 : setup_loader_term_phys_devs: Failed to detect any valid GPUs in the current config
ERROR at /usr/src/debug/vulkan-tools/Vulkan-Tools-1.3.269/vulkaninfo/./vulkaninfo.h:237:vkEnumeratePhysicalDevices failed with ERROR_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

May be not all the graphic cards are supported (I haven’t found anywhere a “list of supported graphic cards”)?

Kernel 6.12.1, Mesa 24.2.8, Vulkan-nouveau 24.2.8, screen looks good, correct resolution, KDE works fine but no vulkaninfo or Vulkan data. Also followed all the steps here and no way to make it run:

How exactly do you recommend to voice up in the nvidia forum? Should we point to our NVIDIA 550.135 driver that we use here? @ KDE Users Anyone else experience a Desktop icon position reset, after manually power off/on the Monitor under X11 + Nvidia? No problem on my AMD Laptop and Wayland, when i use Monitor energy savings btw. so im not sure if this is related to X11 or the manual power off function from my PC Monitor.

You mean “Desktop icon position reset” as all the icons lose their original position and appear lined in the top of the display? If so, the same happens to me only with Kernel 6.12.1, switching to 6.6.63 the problem disappear. I have a Nvidia GT710, nouveau drivers and Wayland.

Thanks for the response, I created a KDE Forum account and duplicated this Topic. The Moderator was pointing at another discussion with a link that showed a possible fix in KDE 6.3 in february next year… uff a long wait time.
