Wifi interface doesn't show (RTL8111/8168/8411)

Hi, a friend advised me to move to Manjaro. So I downloaded the version with GNU.
But my wifi device wasn’t enabled. I’ve installed the driver but nothing is shown in the wifi interface.

Here are some command that may help you to advice me:

Well, you have kernel 5.13 installed, which is EOL. (E nd Of Life)

So it’s recommended you install a different kernel, preferaably an LTS one (Long Term Support)

To install it, from a terminal, run:

sudo mhwd-kernel --install linux510

Once it’s done, reboot. As soon as it starts booting, press the Esc until the Grub OS selection menu shows up.

On that screen navigate with ↑ or ↓ to select the Advanceed… option and press → to enter it.

Once there, select the newly installed kernel, 5.10 in this case, and boot into it by pressing Enter.

When it has successfully booted, install the latest drivers for your network card. from the terminal by running:

pamac build r8168-dkms

Followed by rebooting.

In all theory it should work now.

And if doesn’t, I’m not here. If it does though, heap the praise on!

Remember to remove the EOL kernel, version 5.13:

sudo mhwd-kernel --remove linux513

Thanks a lot for all explanation and tries but it doesn’t work …

I saw that a more up-to-date driver was available so I tried it with :

sudo modprobe -r r8168 && sudo modprobe r8169

But it doesn’t works too :confused: , so I reset to old version with that

sudo modprobe -r r8169 && sudo modprobe r8168

My my setup is maybe bad now, I can reinstall it, but what should I try ?

Buy a new Wifi device ? I’ve never succeed make it run on linux (Ubuntu, Manjaro).
But on Windows it works fine

r8168 is not a wireless device but wired - at least to my knowledge - I am known to wrong on occations.

Your wifi device seems to be on your USB bus.

There is two possibilities on AUR matching 88x2bu

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/?O=0&K=88x2bu

I would try with the second one mentioned - but as it is dkms you need kernel headers for your installed kernels - the best way of knowing is to use mhwd-kernel

mhwd-kernel -li

Then install the headers for the listed kernels e.g. linux510

sudo pacman -Syu linux510-headers

Then build the package using pamac

pamac build rtl88x2bu-dkms-git

The error is not related to your current kernel but to kernel 4.14 - so you would have to install the headers for that one too.

Normally it is not necessary with the r8168-dkms module. The kernel has a built-in module which works fine.

Unless you really need kernel 4.14 you can also go into Manjaro settings and just delete it.
