GParted can't umount volumes

Hello. After install Manjaro from scratch in my old iMac 2011, I’ve tried umount the hard disk in order to check it with GParted, but it informs: "umount -v “/” “… busy”.
Could you help me?

I’m not sure how you copied that inxi output but it’s in HTML format. Can you paste it as text?

If the devices are mounted you can do nothing, you have to unmount them first.

The "/" busy message is expected if you’re trying to unmount the partition you’re currently booted from. Since your root filesystem is on /dev/sda2 with Btrfs, GParted won’t be able to unmount it while the system is running. I’d boot from a Manjaro live USB instead, then open GParted and check the disk from there. That should allow you to unmount the partition without any issues.

This is the point: I can’t (GParted neither) umount them!

They won’t be mounted if you boot from a live USB. Only if you boot from the installation on the disk you want to check.

You seem to be missing the point.

Boot with the Manjaro Installer (bootable ISO).

Once in that live environment, you can run GParted (GUI) to perform various operations, but the root system (/) of your actual Manjaro installation will not be mounted, unless you specifically need to mount it.

You can also use the terminal to run various commands, and it’s also possible to mount your root filesystem and enter a chroot environment to perform many operations.

It depends what you want to do.

What is your intention?

How do you wish GParted to “check” the volume? are you sure you don’t wish to use something like fsck instead?

Is there a specific problem you need to address?

I’m not an expert on Linux. My goal in checking the hard drive (which is already very old) was to make sure it didn’t have any serious errors before I started installing everything and copying all my files. I want this to be my main workstation. Maybe there are other command-line tools that are more suitable (fsck?)…

In any case, I’ve already solved the problem. I did indeed have to boot from “outside” the drive itself: from a USB live drive.
