GNOME white flashes after login

Everytime I login using gdm, the screen shows white screen for one second, it really makes my eyes hurt.

Is there any solution for this?

Try switching to Wayland?

For gdm Cant enable wayland

at
/etc/gdm/custom.conf

WaylandEnable=true

Reboot and try

Why it only occurs when I use Xorg? Can you explain what is the cause? Is there any alternative other than using Wayland? I have some problem with other application when I’m using Wayland like OBS studio and others.

Bugs, Xorg is basically abandonware now, GDM is big and Gnome is not bothering to make it as smooth as possible with somthing even bigger.

Are you sure the resolution is the same? I remeber GDM when logged it switched mÄ› to /dev/tty2 .

Changing the resolution of the TTY by modifing the GRUB config might help remove the flash? You could try tricks with nomodeset + resolution How to increase TTY console resolution on Ubuntu 18.04 Server - LinuxConfig.org

I had no problem with Xorg, except these flash in the login, but I have more problem with Wayland  . Anyway, is this only happens in GNOME? What about KDE?

Your issue is unique for your Hardware. There is million + 1 reasons why this happens, maybe it’s your ACPI table in bios wrong, maybe driver issue.

Try KDE and see. No one knows.

Reinstalled the OS and moving to KDE is the best solution for me, no flashes and I’m able to screen record using OBS without any plugins

Cool you can be happy with KDE

I don’t know what causes it - it appears to be a random issue - albeit for me it is rather consistent - and I am using LXDM to login into Openbox WM. I am even considering switching to console login - then some kind of automation to launch the window manager.

Lucky for me that sway can be started from agetty right away. For Openbox WM it should be doable right? I can’t imagine launching something more complex line Gnome without the GDM extremely complex scripts.

I found the cause of flashing on my system.

I moved picom to the bottom of my Openbox autostart - problem gone - I have been so annoyed - and such a simple fix - I feel like a
