gnome-terminal: Keep the current working directory when opening a new tab

Expected behaviour:
Open terminal with gnome-terminal.
cd foo
open new tab
in the new tab I am already in foo

What happens:
the new tab is still in the home directory.

How to fix it:
According to you have to add . /etc/profile.d/ to the .bashrc.
This fix works for me.

You can apply that workaround yourself, there is no need for it to be default. It would just create complications when the bug is finally fixed. Updates should not mess with your .bashrc.
