Gnome freezes when changing keyboard layout

Hi,
I use a HHKB with US intl. keymap, but I wanted to add a norwegian keymap too. Added one through the gnome region and laguage settings, and when I press super+space to switch layout, the layout switcher pops up and the whole system freezes. I can switch to tty but that’s it. I’m able to undo the change running gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources sources "[('xkb', 'us-altgr-intl')]" and restart gdm to get back into gnome.

Anyone know whats up? And where to start to troubleshoot this?

hi @Seredo, this is a common issue with mutter in GNOME and a bug report has been filed. This should be fixed soon especially with the new release of GNOME 3.38 coming in a few weeks in Mid-September.

I only started experiencing this issue (precisely as described Seredo, except that I switch to French) today, in late January 2021.

Also using Manjaro Gnome. It worked fine last week.

Any currently known workarounds?

Okay. In my case this was due to a conflict with fcitx chinese input method.

Same issue here. Using fcitx chinese, spanish and german input (or at least tried to ^^). Did you solve the problem or found a workaround?
