As you can see here, I have application dashboard set as the preferred alternative over application launcher. The power/session icons below favourites are pretty ugly compared to the same icons inside the appropriate category in the menu. Most probably the icons have been replaced by symbolic icons (Idk if symbolic icons exist in KDE, but I’ve experienced them in Cinnamon in the past).
When my default theme is breeze or breath2, those icons are identical. Also when I set Materia theme for the 1st time, those icons were the same. But after playing with themes for a few days (noob mistake, please don’t rant  ), the current abomination of symbolic & colour icons was created.
What I have tried to fix it:

  1. Restart plasmashell
  2. Replace dashboard with launcher & again switch to dashboard
  3. Log out & log back in
  4. Use Wayland session
  5. Search this forum, google, ArchWiki, askubuntu and reddit on this topic
  6. Delete .cache folder in home directory and restart

But nothing works. Can anybody give me a working solution?

The icon on the bottom are taken from the desktoptheme either from inside

/usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/theme-name/icons/system.svg

or if you installed some custom, are in

~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/theme-name/icons/system.svg

or can be system.svgz in some cases …

and if those do not exist then they are taken from

/usr/share/plasma/look-and-feel/org.theme.name.desktop/contents/components/artwork

The other icons are dependent of the icon theme as they are taken by the desktop files that correspond to them.

That helped me solve my problem. Thanks!
