Frequent Freezed and Performance Issues

Hi I am a very avid user of Manjaro and recently I got a new system with AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, 16 Gigs Memory along with Nvidia 3070 GPU. Initially I installed Manjaro KDE and noticed frequent freezes and Performance drops. Then I tried Manjaro Xfce and there too the story is the same, frequent freezes and not that great overall performance.

Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Welcome at the forum, @roshanp :tada:

Here are some guides with maybe helpful hints:

If you wish further help, please post:

inxi -Fxxxza --no-host
lspci -v
mhwd -li

If possible, please indicate when exactly the freezes happen (e.g. what programs are running etc.).

Thanks for the reponse.

Here’s the output of inxi -Fxxxza --no-host

I have not seen any obvious issue in your logs.

if a system is freshly installed there is some file system initialization ongoing for a while and baloo file search index creation will take some ressources for a while as well but this will disappear after some days. Therefore, pleaee check what programs are running when you see a freeze.

Another option could be to evaluate if you need a special kernel parameter for your hardware. For example: processor.max_cstate=1

In your firmware you could verify if you have something like:

  • Global C State Control (or just C State)
  • Power Idle Control
  • SMT

Changing the corresponding settings could help as well, potentially.

Can you help me with how to change these settings. I am not aware of how to do these things. thanks

OK, just as an example, if you like to try the processor.max_cstate=1 parameter run

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

and add

processor.max_cstate=1

sowhere in the line starting with

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=

between the " … " before or behind the other paramters.
