Foreign packages in New Install Media

I pulled the latest available iso from the Manjaro Downloads page.

Plasma Minimal date March 27

When I was looking through Installed packages I noticed there are several Foreign packages. They are actually in the AUR.

They seem to be hard options for standard packages, and cannot be removed withges such as gwenview, okular and spetacleout removing major KDE packages such as gwenview, okular and spectakle

acounts-qml-module, is a hard dependency for purpose which is a hard dependency for the above.

That however is not the ISO that is available on the Manjaro Downloads.

It is possible that

Any and all ISO build from the official repo has no dependencies on custom packages.

Since that particular ISO was built - some packages may have moved to AUR.

Yes, that appears to be the case. The packages just hang there in limbo, until the AUR is activated,

It got me wondering if there might be a better way. But I suppose not.

The decision to move packages to AUR usually happens upstream at Arch Linux maintenance.

The way to handle it - I think - would be something like

  • a full system update
  • list orphaned packages
  • feed the list to the package manager for removal

This should be fairly simple using pamac - a little more complicated using pacman.

I’ll have a look at that. I have a spare USB SSD.

I seem to have a hardware problem on my Slimbook. Installing a new system on the external SSD seems to have fixed it, so I’m looking at the NVME

Is there a way to ask the maintainer of linux-firmware-broadcom to include b43-firmware that was moved to the AUR quite a while ago? I’m not sure this is reasonable or even doable but it would activate wifi on many older apple devices out of the box.
