Failed to synchronize all databases (unexpected error); after pacnew overwrite

This file does not exist

then I’m really out of ideas

There are ways to remove and re-create the database.
I don’t know of the top of my head how exactly.

Well, thank you so much! You were a big help!

I will look into that tomorrow.

Something strange just happend. I got kicked out of my wifi network, a few minutes after I made the changes to /etc/passwd
It would not reconnect. So I switched to my mobile phone wifi and I thought I try to sync again. And it did!

sudo pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
 core is up to date
 extra
 multilib is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
 there is nothing to do

I don’t know what is going on…

Neither do I.

… I recommended a reboot - or a re-login
perhaps that network change did … something

I’d certainly have refreshed and synced the mirrors once again before trying.

It looks all god now.
Is it not?

Well, after refreshing mirrors and a reboot, I was able to log into my regular wifi netork; but only once.
Syncing only works on my mobile wifi and only with VPN off.

Looks like my NetworkManager is really messed up.

Right now I need a break from this. Thank you again!
I will look into it once again tomorrow.

no worries - the ways things can be made to fail are interesting to me
no offence intended!

Be well!

ps:
I like your avatar picture :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m not trying to be facetious by posting search links.

There are actually many references to these errors that might actually produce something useful:

Search results for “failed to synchronize all databases (unexpected error)”

Search results for “failed to synchronize all databases (unable to lock database)”

Plus some general reference:

Have you tried -Syyu?

Like I stated in the OG, I was looking for many hours here in the forum and also on google, reading many posts, but nothing helped me. That’s why I posted here.

Well, it looks like it was a problem with the NetworkManager. After I got some results yesterday by changing the wifi network, I just deleted all saved network entries for NetworkManager.
Suprisingly it worked. All back to normal. Maybe some old cache file blocking networking? I don’t know.

Thank you @Nachlese for your help!

PS. Now I don’t know what to mark as solution …

It’s also possible the issue was environmental, considering you were using WiFi. Regardless, I’m glad your issue is resolved.

We can simply close the topic instead, as the resolution isn’t overly useful to others who might stumble across this thread hoping for a specific solution.

Regards.
