Failed to start user manager for uid 973

The last time I used my pc I opened bmenu and chose the option Mantain System. Now I tried to boot it up and lightdm does not recognise my password. Also I noticed I get the error “Failed to start user manager for uid 973” when I boot my pc.

I tried searching for similar issues but I can’t find anything.
Does anyone know what might be the problem?

I did use chroot but didn’t know where to start fixing my problem…

In the end I did not find the problem and I decided to reinstall my system. I did a back up of all the important stuff following the instructions you sent.
