HDMI audio not available even when video is connected

I connected my laptop to TV via HDMI for the first time. The TV appears immediately as a second workspace. I can play a video with mpv and move it there with no problems…except the audio keeps coming out of the laptop speakers. In fact, as my inxi below shows, the HDMI audio device is not even recognized. I haven’t found anything searching on here, except in the other direction (how to disable HDMI audio and use laptop’s). Suggestions, please?

I am running sway with the default pipewire configuration.

I do not know sway and how things can be configured there graphically.

In xfce I can reach my audio settings through the panel icon.
But that same program that I use to change the profile, so output is set to the hdmi port can also be opened from command line.
LANG=C pavucontrol
The fifth tab, labelled “Configuration”
The standard Profile for me is: Analog Stereo Duplex
There I can change it to: “Digital Stereo HDMI”
and there are a few other choices as well.

The sound through my monitor is even more terrible than from the Laptop speakers - so I never do that.
But it works.

HTH

Sorry I was so quick to dismiss your advice. I tried pavucontrol and found it could turn on my HDMI audio, so problem solved!

Thanks!
