Failed to open file error when clicking on file in thunar after new install

since gparted destroyed my boot drive forcing me to reinstall to a spare disc, every time I try to access/open any file via thunar I get an error dialog Failed to open file filename.jpg Failed to execute child process “gio-launch-desktop” (No such file or directory).
this worked before I had to reinstall.

From terminal:
sudo pacman-mirrors -f && sudo pacman -Syyu glib2

Reboot after that.
