Failed to load lightdm after last update

Hello there,

I encountered a problem after last update :

  • I can’t boot into X mode anymore.
  • I can boot and open a TTY (ctrl+alt+F2) and enter commands

The error message is “Failed to load lightdm”.

It happened after last update and reboot.

I tried to follow other posts instructions related to this problem but made no progress so far.

Below are the outputs of severall commands.

Here is what I tried and didn’t work :

  1. added logind-check-graphical=true to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and reboot
  2. disable lightdm from systemctl and reboot. I can still see the message, but now the whole screen turn gray and I see a blinking cursor
  3. reinstalling nvidia packages. I’m still confused about which packages I should use and how to install the correct ones.

Could anyone help me ?

Sorry if I’m not posting in the right place, I never encountered such a problem with Manjaro. I used to solve them almost immediatly…

There is no nvidia driver loaded (not installed properly?).

See “Nvidia 495xx driver series drops Kepler support; need to manually switch to 470xx.” in wiki post of latest announcement:

sudo mhwd -r pci video-nvidia
sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia-470xx

Thanks a lot, I’ll try that immediatly

Unfortunatelly I couldn’t install the drivers :frowning:

I had conflicting files problems while reinstalling, so I checked with pacman if any package owned them, which fortunatelly wasn’t the case.

I removed them manually and the installation went smoothly.

The DM started right after the installation and I was able to login. It persisted after a reboot and I think it workds now.
