[FAILED] Failed to start Apply Kernel Variables, [FAILED] Failed to start Flush Journal to Persistent Storage

I’ve been running Manjaro XFCE on my old laptop for a long time now without any issues. I’m running the latest, most updated stable version.

Suddenly today, when I’m trying to boot the machine, I get stuck on a black screen for very long and then get presented with two errors:

[FAILED] Failed to start Apply Kernel Variables
[FAILED] Failed to start Flush Journal to Persistent Storage

After that, nothing happens. I have no idea what to do, I have searched for an answer but haven’t been able to find something I understand. I’m a complete noobie you see.

same error after re-boot ? system partition is not full, space left ?

Yes, same error after every reboot I tried.
Hard disk only one partition, only running Manjaro, plenty of space left
