This forum here uses the Retort Discourse plugin to add emoji reactions to forum posts. It’s a great third party plugin for Discourse.
Last week we (the Discourse team) launched a similar plugin that is official and maintained by the same team that maintains Discourse. It may make sense to evaluate if migrating makes sense here.

They aren’t really different. The difference is that the Discourse devs support the one he linked, while the one we use now is a 3rd party plugin.
