Ethernet Broken ThinkPad Kernel 5.7-rc2,3,4,5,6,7

After this morning update, we now have two ethernet connections that are displayed. We deleted them and it was replaced by this:

New 802-3-ethernet connection.

After re-configuration we still have two connections and we lost Internet:
1.enp2s0
2.eth1

Turn off wired connection or the modem has no effect. Reset the modem was the only solution for 5.6.5-3. For Kernel 5.7-rc2, only enp2s0 works not eth1.

Deleting one of them deletes both.

Edit: eth1 did not have a MAC address, overwriting (restrict to device) this connection with the default MAC address (enp2s0) removes eth1. Back to normal.

Still have the bug after a fresh install of the latest ISO 20.0-rc3 (2020422). Enabling the unstable channel brings back the same issue.

Deleting both of them with remove selected connection gives after restart the same result:

New 802-3-ethernet connection

Not using WIFI

inxi -N
Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
driver: r8169
Device-2: Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi adapter
driver: rtw_pci

This bug is not present on Kubuntu 20.04 for the same Kernel.

Edit: After this morning updates (20200424), upon restart a second dead connection is created (wired connection 1).

Hi

same problem here!
New Manjaro Mate install with kernel 5.7

This bug is gone here, but we stop using Manjaro because of the GUFW issue. Delete the second connection with the minus in red first, then try to rename the connection to see if it comes back.

DNS's setup (Adguard) is made directly in the Modem. No need to redo the setup for each installation.

Primary:176.103.130.130
Secondary:176.103.130.131
Modem IP Address is tweaked to 172.xxx.xx.xx

Not able to paste the rest, new user reason...
Here's the error for Kernel 5.7-rc3:

Fresh install latest testing ISO L56.8

Compiling Kernel 5.7-rc3 brings back this issue. The computer connects to the second (no MAC address) one. Previous post result.

At first, removing the second one deletes both. A new wired connection must be created to access the Internet. Upon restart, this bug came back for a second and last time, but removing the second does not remove the previous one.

There is a second bug with 5.7, show desktop in taskbar comes back after each restart.

Network Manager works normally after the second correction.

Same issue this morning with the fourth release candidate, a second connection is created and the machine boots there. Nothing wrong with the second restart.

Apart the taskbar, the rest is OK on the unstable channel.

Fresh install Cinnamon 20.0 Kernel 5.7-rc3

Similar and worst issue in Cinnamon 20.0, the kernel creates a second dead connection. The default Ethernet one becomes Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411PCI Express Gigabite Ethernet Controller. Its name in settings: PCI Ethernet.

This time, the second connection has a cloned MAC Address, but it refuses to connect. Also, it is not possible to delete this connection, not even with reset > Forget. Connect automatically must be OFF.

Nothing abnormal in Kernel 5.6.8 or dot 10-3.

For KDE, this bug was not present in 5.7-rc0 and not sure at 100%, probably rc1 too. It was introduced in rc2 and it has not gotten any corrections since then.

This install ends up with no password. Plus, the clock is locked 4 hours behind New-York time.

Kernel 5.7-rc4 is available in the unstable channel only (13 packages).

It is a known issue that linux57 has a general network problem. That is a developer kernel and not used for normal usage just yet.

Same ball game, except that rc5 creates a second connection permanently.
Plus, Tor Alpha 9.5a12 does not start and tor launcher is 2 builds behind schedule and it does not update.

A 10 minutes fresh install. See you next week!

Gnome 20200511 L56.11

Same in Gnome for rc7.

nmcli connection show

uname -a
Linux gnome 5.7.0-1-MANJARO #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon May 25 09:03:22 UTC 2020 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The real one is enp2s0 (PCI Ethernet), eth1 (Ethernet OFF) is a false dead duplication.

Tomorrow, Kernel 5.7 will be on the stable channel.

I was looking for Gnome 3.37.0.1, but the unstable branch is empty.

Try this:

Problem is in the r16x driver. There is one pointer (to phy driver) that is not working well.

Gnome 20200531 L56.15-1
Kernel 5.7.0 is not available, only rc7.

Unless there's an error in the procedure, eth1 (dead) remains visible in network applet. No gain, still have to uncheck connect automatically + unremovable.
