Error while creating partition table while installing manjaro

so install gparted in live usb, with it create a new partition table GPT, then format it in ext4 and try again

im getting an input/output error

doing what? formatting it ? your hard disk is probably corrupted

while trying to create a new partition table, i dont know how it can be corrupted though, its only a few months old

check the disks smart status via kde partition manager
also run check on it via kde partiton manager and just to be sure do it also with gparted

it says smart status is good but it has 1509 bad sectors

so your drive is damaged …
run check on it from kde partition manager

i cant find where to run a check on kde partition manager, i ran one on gparted though but even that failed to work. i think im just going to order a new hard drive. im really not getting anywhere with this, thanks for the help though.

and can you format the drive to ext4? or it fails too?

i cant really do anything, i cant format or delete partitions

so run the fsck as was recommended above:
sudo e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/sda

i have but it doesnt do anything, it just tells me “theres a bad magic number in the superblock” and “The superblock could not be read or does not describe a valid ext2/ext3/ext4 filesystem.”

output from this:
sudo smartctl -x /dev/sda

well there are some errors …
you could try to completely reset the ssd, here is a link on arch on how to do it:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Solid_state_drive/Memory_cell_clearing

ill give it a shot, thanks

wait you dont have an ssd its a normal hdd … so forget about the reseting

oh yeah, is there anything similar for a hdd

not that im aware off
can you delete the whole disk? in kde partition manager there is o option to ‘delete’ - does it fails too?
also try to installing windows on it, if you would be able to do that, then theres probably a bios setting/option that messes things up in linux

apparently my usb isnt big enough to install windows, its also now saying there is no partition table again and its not letting me make a new one
